The Caribbean waters were once legendary for pirates and treasure-seeking seafarers, but are now enjoyed by sailing and yacht charter enthusiasts who appreciate the gorgeous scenery, great winds, and variety of specialty restaurants, beach bars, and other anchorages. The BVI is a dream destination for even the least experienced sailors – plan your BVI yacht charter during the months with constant trade winds, great weather, and calm seas.

The British Virgin Islands offer a wonderful tropical climate year round with temperatures ranging from 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and dropping to a comfortable 70 degrees Fahrenheit during the night; almost any time of year is the perfect time to visit or vacation to the British Virgin Islands.

The Caribbean region is well known worldwide for near-perfect sailing conditions—warm water, beautiful islands, and plenty of snorkeling, fishing, and pristine beaches for swimming and relaxation. Many BVI sailing charter enthusiasts travel via yacht exploring islands, taking advantage of ideal winter sailing season conditions.

Keep in mind it does rain occasionally, but usually only small tropical showers that don’t last for long—however, visiting during hurricane season may damper your BVI yacht charter vacation. Officially, hurricane season begins in June and ends in November, so if you do plan a vacation during these months, it’s best to keep an eye on the local weather. The trade winds offer spectacular and consistent conditions for BVI sailing charters from November to May, with lighter winds in the other months. The majority of tourists and BVI sailing charter enthusiasts plan their visit during the winter months and into early spring—from the middle of December to the middle of April, with the off season stretching from April till December. If you do plan on visiting during the off season to take advantage of smaller crowds and a quieter atmosphere, keep in mind this does correspond with the Caribbean’s peak tourist season—island prices will be higher.

June through November (official Hurricane season begins June 1st and ends November 30th) are not favorable months because of summer rains and hurricane season. Hurricanes can and do threaten the Caribbean, with most occurring in August, September, and November. Bareboat charter vacation spots may close the month of September into the first week of October, with charters typically ending around August 20th due to the hurricane season. For more information about sailing the BVI, contact a bareboat charter specialist. He or she will be happy to answer questions about BVI sailing charter vacations!

Tortola, both the largest and main island of the British Virgin Islands is an absolute must-see for all BVI Charter vacationers. The largest or the “hub” of the chain of British Virgin islands, Tortola is special in that it offers visitors peace and quiet, but at the same time every activity they could dream of, whether it’s snorkeling, horseback riding, scuba diving, sailing, fishing, shopping, botanic gardens, and much more. The island of Tortola is well known for it’s absolutely incredible beaches, beautiful aquamarine waters, BVI charter destinations, and rich history of pirates and privateers.

About 24 square miles long, Tortola is home to more then 30 beautiful sheltered bays and spectacular mountainous peaks towards the center of the island. A perfect vacation spot in the BVI, Tortola is translated as “land of turtle doves” and was once home to the famous British pirate Blackbeard (also known as Edward Teach) and Smugglers Cove, now a spectacular snorkeling destination.

Calm seas around the BVI and constant good winds make Tortola one of the region’s premier BVI charter regions. BVI charters can sail to Tortola’s multiple anchorage points, namely Brandywine Bay and Cane Garden—Cane Garden Bay is a very popular attraction, featuring white sand beaches and incredible surfing opportunities. Other BVI charters dock at Hodge’s Creek Marina Cay, Soper’s Hole, and Trellis Bay as well. Once docked, visit some of Tortola’s attractions on land—the BVI Folk Museum at Tortola’s capital, Road Town, the Callwood Rum Distillery, or browse through the many shops selling rum, jam, soap, beautiful jewelry, fabrics, art, and more.

When planning a BVI charter vacation, visit Tortola for exotic local seafood dishes from both low-key beach shacks and the upscale restaurants as well for delicious flavors reminiscent of West India. You’ll get to experience the island’s rich mix of culture and enjoy lobster, seafood, curries, spicy goat dishes, and more. Tortola is the perfect laid back BVI charter destination—interestingly enough they’ve only had traffic lights as recently as 2001.

Tortola is also notable for its residents overwhelmingly friendly and welcoming attitude, and the majority of the British Virgin Islands extremely safe and free of crime. Hospitality and a safe and relaxed atmosphere are another positive attribute contributing to Tortola being a fantastic BVI charter destination.

Tortola is a great starting point for BVI charter vacationers who’re setting off to explore all that the BVI has to offer. A must-see for any BVI charter vacationers, snail into Tortola to experience pristine white beaches, green mountains, and a little bit of everything else. Bio:

Take a Bareboat Charter Vacation to Anegada, the “Drowned Island” of the BVI, both a curious and spectacular paradise in the British Virgin Islands. Anegada boasts a rich history of pirates, legends, and aboriginal people and is definitely worth a visit via Bareboat Charter. Contemporary Anegada is equally impressive, with amazing cuisine, shipwrecks, wild orchids, beautiful beaches, and incredible snorkeling opportunities. Protected by the famous Horseshoe Reef, the world’s largest coral reef after the Great Barrier and Belize, Anegada is a remote, spectacular part of the BVI and a must-see for any Bareboat Charter vacation.
If you choose to take a Bareboat Charter to Anegada, you’ll get to experience its famous and gorgeous ocean reef lagoons located on the north side of the island. Just offshore, you’ll find a line of reefs that guard the sandy beaches and oceanside lagoons. These beaches are perfect for sunbathing, picnicking, swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking as well. The snorkeling is an amazing experience, with schools of mojarra, needlefish, shrimp, and a dazzling array of coral and other fish in the reef. The ocean floor is sunlit, providing an amazing view of all aquatic life. The white sand beaches and incredible underwater scenery make Anegada a Bareboat Charter must-see.

If you’re more adventurous, head out to the dark reef area mid-lagoon to check out the different small caves and shipwrecks. You’ll be able to see many different kinds of corals, such as brain coral, boulder coral, and enormous Elkhorn coral as well. Larger fish like mackerel and nurse sharks swim by occasionally, as well as parrot fish, angelfish, and yellow tail snappers.

Although once off limits, Anegada is now available for experienced Bareboat Charterers to experience. Contact your bareboat charter company to find out how you can sail to Anegada. Depending on your sailing and navigational abilities, you’ll be able to sail to Anegada without assistance, given you have prior experience and the permission of your bareboat charter company. In recent years, Anegada has improved the navigation in their channel, making the trip a less dangerous one, but if you haven’t been there before, sail with caution or you’ll find yourself sitting on top of a reef or with a hole in the yacht that you chartered. If you’re a novice, a skipper can always take you to the island and back. Contact your Bareboat Charter company for more information on the beautiful island of Anegada and how you can make it part of your spectacular BVI bareboat charter vacation!

The beaches of Tortola are spectacular and can be explored on a Tortola sailing vacation. Some are quiet and remote, while others bustle with activity, music, and restaurants. Barecat.com offers chartered catamarans for the discovery of this beautiful island and its beaches.

The protected bays of Tortola are the perfect spot for sailing because of the constant sunny, breezy, and balmy weather. The water is calm, and beach hopping is easy because of Tortola’s frequent beaches, and the surrounding islands’ close proximity. The beaches of Tortola have white sand, palm trees and are surrounded by volcanic mountains covered in lush greenery. There are many beaches to visit while Tortola sailing, ranging from completely private and isolated locations, to beaches busy with shops, restaurants, and music.

Traveling from west to east on the north shore of Tortola begins with Smugglers Cove beach. This secluded beach has exceptionally clear and calm water, so it is wonderful for snorkeling. There are no crowds to deal with here, and it is peaceful and remote. Visit the small, rustic seaside bar for refreshments and beach chairs on this charming beach.

Just east of Smugglers Cove is Long Bay Beach. It is one mile long and lovely for quiet walks. Long Bay Beach is considered one of the world’s most photogenic beaches with its exquisite sand, blue-green water, and dramatic setting. It is easily accessible from land, and has medium waves for enjoyable swimming. There are opportunities for quiet dining and shopping for local delicacies and treasures.

Apple Bay Beach has large waves making it a fabulous surfer beach. There are several hotels and restaurants with great local food featuring fresh fish and lots of rum punch! It is an exciting Tortola beach with music, dancing, entertainment, and activities. Visit the numerous local shops for watercolors and crafts by native artists for souvenirs.

Cane Garden Bay is an excellent anchorage for Tortola sailing because of its curved shape, sheltered bay, and generally calm water. There are many popular bars and restaurants to enjoy during a beach visit here, and the water activities are plenty. It is an ideal spot for boating, windsurfing, water skiing, and swimming.

Moving further east on Tortola’s north shore is Brewers Bay Beach, which is another calm and quiet spot. There are many coral reefs off of this beach making for outstanding snorkeling. Ruins can be seen on the beach adding to its character and beauty. Access to Brewer’s Bay on the road is a bit challenging, making this a remote and peaceful beach.

An east end beach on Tortola is Josiah’s Bay Beach. There is a small beach bar and a few close by houses and restaurants. Certain times of the year this is a fantastic surf spot, but beware of the undertow. Some seasons allow for relatively calm waters for safe swimming. Visible across from Josiah’s Bay is Guana Island and White Bay which is a fabulous anchorage for Tortola sailing.

Elizabeth Beach, also known as Lambert Bay, is one of the favorite beaches of the north shore on the east end of the island. There are spectacular views on this wide beach, and it is one of the favorite and most beautiful of the Tortola beaches.

Barecat Yacht Charters supplies luxury catamarans for Tortola sailing. They have stateside booking, and Barecat.com can coordinate and plan trips with you for a wonderful British Virgin Islands sailing adventure.

Bio: Grace Enderlein is a freelance writer and editor. “Tortola Sailing and Beach Guide” describes the numerous beaches on the north shore of Tortola. Barecat.com offers catamaran sailing charters in Tortola.

BVI catamaran charter sailing is a wonderful vacation choice, and there are requirements that vacationers need to know in order to have a secure and pleasant voyage. Barecat.com is an experienced yacht charter company offering catamaran sailing charters with outstanding customer support.

BVI catamaran charter sailing is an increasingly popular and extraordinary way to vacation. It is a peaceful and exotic adventure allowing exploration of beautiful islands via the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean. There are some requirements to chartering a bareboat catamaran which a vacationer should know while planning their trip in order to have a safe and enjoyable journey. Also, there are good reasons to choose catamaran sailing over a traditional monohull vessel. There are several sizes of catamarans to choose from to sail in the perfect setting of the British Virgin Islands.

In addition to the travel basics, such as bringing a passport, a bathing suit and lots of sunscreen, there are some things that are required for a bareboat charter. It is a magnificent way to vacation, but safety should always be a first priority. An experienced sailor should be on board for a bareboat charter, and a resume of sailing experience is required to outline catamaran sailing skill and education. Beginners can also have a skipper join them for a test run, or learning to sail can take place during the trip. Captains are available for hire for the whole trip if guests do not have the experience to sail the boat.

Catamarans are suited to the wants and needs of vacationers for British Virgin Islands’ charters, and are the boat of choice vs. a monohull sailboat. Catamarans are stable because of their wide stance, not because of the weighted depth that a monohull has. This allows for stable sailing with less heeling, the ability for more anchorages in shallow waters, and more steadiness even when anchored. The design of a catamaran also makes them able to sail with great speed. Catamarans have more living space making passengers more comfortable, and offering more privacy. Even the deck is larger on a catamaran, which caters to vacationers wanting to swim, socialize, and relax on the boat.

There are different types and sizes of catamarans, and Barecat.com offers beautiful catamarans in top mechanical condition for BVI catamaran charters. The Lagoon 38 is great for families with its panoramic salon, and private comfort of the owner’s head. It sleeps six and handles beautifully with great speed. The Leopard 38 also sleeps six, and is easy to maneuver. It has a master suite and two double cabins. Island Spirit features three cabins and is luxurious, fast, and fabulous to sail. Lagoon 410 offers high-end performance and comfort and sleeps six. The Norseman Larimar has four queen size cabins, a very spacious and comfortable salon, and has panoramic views. The Privilege 45 sleeps eight, and is elegantly appointed. The open floor plan of the Rainbow Rider Bahia 46 sleeps ten and has fantastic viewing windows. The Aggie Cat is beautifully decorated with private staterooms, sleeping 10, and a great deck layout front and back for lounging in the sun.

The British Virgin Islands are the perfect location for catamaran sailing. The dramatic setting of the volcanic islands emerging from the azure Caribbean is a glorious site. There are short distances between the islands with their white sand beaches and palm trees, and the weather is consistently warm and breezy. Many of the islands are uninhabited, and can only be reached by boat in the British Virgin Islands, adding to the adventure of the trip. On a BVI catamaran charter, there are many activities for vacationers in addition to sailing including snorkeling, swimming, fishing, hiking, and even shopping and dining on the islands visited.

Barecat.com provides luxury catamaran charters at a reasonable cost. Their word of mouth advertising from customers who have had great experiences keeps their yachts always in demand. They give personal service in planning the details of a vacation with stateside booking, and their knowledge of customer needs and expectations.

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) are a paradise waiting to be discovered. The best way to ensure that your British Virgin Island Charter is an experience of a lifetime is to be prepared with the necessities and to leave everything else behind.

Nothing should be easier than packing for a British Virgin Island Charter vacation. The biggest mistake that most travelers make is packing too much. Remember, storage space is limited so pack only the essentials in duffel bags because they can be folded up and forgotten until it’s time to pack again.

Before you even think about what to wear and what to take, organizing your travel documents should be your biggest priority. All travelers to the Caribbean are now required to have a valid passport. Also take an extra copy of your passport and carry it in a different location in case it is lost. Your British Virgin Island Charter company should have also sent you your vacation package confirmation. Don’t forget all of the documents as well as a few extra copies. Copies should be made and brought along if you are traveling to different islands for easier customs check-in.

When packing your clothing remember you will be wearing a swimsuit for many hours of relaxation during your British Virgin Island Charter. When going ashore most people on a sailing vacation prefer casual attire so shorts and t-shirts are appropriate in most island restaurants, even for dinner. Some of the finer resorts may require a jacket and trousers for men and a dress for women. You will need sandals or boat shoes (something that can get wet) and walking or hiking shoes for on shore excursions. Bring enough of underwear for the week, sleepwear, a few swimsuits and a swimsuit cover-up, a light windbreaker, a beach towel and personal toiletries.

Along with the above mentioned items, listed are a few extra necessities not to forget:

Sun Protection (SPF 15 or higher, sunglasses, hat) and bug spray

Cameras (digital camera, extra memory, disposable water proof camera)

Flashlight- for your cabin

Ziploc baggies- to store away documents or items you want to keep dry

Playing Cards, Book, Cds or MP3 player –for free time

Snorkel Equipment – if you’re averse to using second hand snorkel equipment

Travel Binoculars- for exotic and rare bird watching

Be sure to check directly with your British Virgin Island Charter company for any specific needs related to your vacation. Everyone can experience an extraordinary British Virgin Islands Charter. BVI is referred to as the sailing capital of the Caribbean and offers the finest and safest sailing in the world. The only thing you’ll need besides the essentials is a spirit for adventure.
